Tipping Point contestant's answer staggers host Ben Shephard

Quizmaster Ben Shephard was left dumbfounded by the response of a contestant on popular ITV gameshow Tipping Point, after the gentleman in question got his Homers mixed up.

Asked the following question by the 46-year-old host, “In his epic poems, Homer often refers to nectar as the drink of the gods and which other substance as their food?”, the contestant thought out loud, “I know he likes doughnuts…"

The incredulous look on Shephard’s face, who also managed to stifle a little chuckle, was obviously not noticed by the confident-looking contestant, who proceeded to add, “I think I’ll go with…” only to pause for a brief second as he mulled over his answer.

At this point he seemed he may actually have come to his senses and realised the ‘Homer’ in question related to the Ancient Greek author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, among other works, rather than the bumbling patriarch of The Simpsons family, who reside in Springfield, and for whom the sweet treats are a favoured dietary requirement.

But when he added the next three words of “…doughnuts, please Ben,” he added himself to quiz show immortality, with Shephard’s jaw dropping at hearing such an answer.
