Tipperary goalkeeper's hurley stolen as he signed autographs for fans

A hurley belonging to a Tipperary’s goalkeeper was stolen following a match on Sunday.

Barry Hogan set it on the ground following their six-point Munster Championship defeat to Waterford to sign autographs for fans at Semple Stadium in Thurles when it was taken.

Liam Cahill’s side lost to Davy Fitzgerald’s Waterford side 0-17 to 1-22.

Tipperary GAA posted on social media appealing for the hurley to be returned to the 23-year-old stopper.

In a statement a spokesman said: “Following today’s game while he was signing autographs on the field, Tipperary player Barry Hogan’s hurley was taken.

“Tipperary GAA and Barry are appealing to whoever took the hurley to please please return it.”

One fan on the official Tipperary GAA Facebook page called for its return.

The supporter wrote: “Whoever took the hurl should give it back ASAP. It could be of importance to Barry also it’s his property and could be sentimental to him and also could be his No.1 hurl.

“You don’t have to make yourself known just leave it somewhere it can be picked up safely.”

Hogan, a student at the University of Limerick, made his senior inter-county debut against Kerry in the Munster hurling league of 2019.

He won provincial and all-Ireland minor hurling medals in 2016, an All-Ireland hurling medal in 2018 and under-20 Munster and All-Ireland hurling medals in 2019.
