Tipperary appoint David Power as new senior football manager

Tipperary have moved to appoint former minor boss David Power as their new senior football manager.

Power led the Premier County to the 2011 All-Ireland minor title where they saw off a star-studded Dublin side in the final.

He has been appointed on a two-year term ahead of the new season, replacing Liam Kearns who stepped down in June.

Power takes the reigns after Tipperary endured a disappointing campaign last term with relegation from Division Three.

A shock Munster exit to Limerick followed before they were knocked out of the All-Ireland Championship in the first round of qualifiers by Down.

Power, 57, who had a two-year spell in charge of Wexford's footballers, has already put together an experienced backroom team.

Donegal man Charlie McGeever is on board, who managed Finn Harps in the League of Ireland before taking Tipperary to the 2015 All-Ireland minor final and winning a Munster club title with Clonmel Commercials the same year.

And Power has also secured the services of former Dublin full-back Paddy Christie, ex-Clare goalkeeper Joe Hayes and Michael McGeehin, who coached Tipp under Peter Creedon.
