Tipperary and Cavan supporters celebrate historic victories with fireworks, flags and festivities

The counties of Tipperary and Cavan were toasting historic victories in All-Ireland Football Championship last night.

On the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, remarkably history repeated itself as the four provincial winners of 1920 won the 2020 editions.

This was not a big surprise in the shape of Dublin winning Leinster or Mayo winning Connacht, but few would have tipped either Cavan or Tipperary for the Ulster and Munster Championship respectively.

Tipperary created the first big shock on Sunday when they ended a 85-year wait for Munster football glory by beating Cork.

Cavan players given heroes welcome after winning Ulster Championship

Celebrations have been muted somewhat by Covid-19 regulations but a video from Ballyporeen, a village ironically on the Tipperary-Cork border, shows fans of the Premier County celebrating with fireworks, flags and festivities.

In the Ulster Championship, Cavan showed tremendous determination to topple red-hot favourites Donegal and win a first provincial crown since 1997.

There were jubilant scenes in Cavan Town and throughout the county as Matty Graham's men returned as heroes.
