Tipp legend Brendan Maher set to join Offaly backroom team

Tipperary hurling legend Brendan Maher is set to join the Offaly senior hurling backroom team for the 2023.

The 33-year-old from Borrisoleigh is a major coup for John Kelly ahead of his first season in the hot-seat. Kelly was ratified as manager for the 2023 season at the beginning of last month having served as part of Michael Fennelly's backroom team for past couple of seasons.

A three-time All-Ireland winner with the Premier County, Maher retired from inter-county hurling at the end of the 2021 season. An All-star on three occasions the versatile Maher played in six All Ireland finals, all of which were against Brian Cody Kilkenny.

He called an end to his inter-county career in August 2021. His final appearance in a glittering career for The Premier County was in the All-Ireland quarter-final defeat earlier that year.

Maher will be familiar with at least one member of the Offaly backroom staff, as his brother Martin has already been confirmed to be a part of Kelly's ticket.

Barry Teehan and Colm Callanan form the rest of the backroom team as Offaly ply their trade in Division 2A and the Joe McDonagh cup next term.
