Tip shop at Newport's recycling centre is reopening with new safety measures

The shop at Newport tip is to reopen and will be accepting donations.

On Monday, August 10, the tip shop, which has been closed since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will reopen Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

People aren't required to book a visit to the shop but the council has asked visitors to familiarise themselves with the guidance in place to ensure a safe visit.

The tip reopened to the public on Tuesday, May 26 and a booking system is now in place.

You will still need to book if you're planning on visiting the recycling centre on the same site. Slots can be pre-booked using the council's online booking service.

Last year, we visited the tip shop to see what was being sold there. You can see the sort of items that are sold at the tip shop, here.

In order to maintain social distancing on site, visitor numbers to the shop will be limited to six at any one time, and a one-in, one-out system will be in place.

The new safety measures

  • donations will be placed in quarantine for 48 hours before being placed on shelves for sale
  • hand sanitiser will be provided at the entrance to the shop
  • customers are asked to pay using card

Donations to the shop are being accepted, but will need to be examined by shop staff first before being accepted.

If you are planning to donate items, let staff know on arrival. Staff are unable to accept any items left outside of the shop.
