Remains found in NSW bushland after businessman's suspected murder

Human remains discovered on a private property in the NSW Illawarra region are believed to belong to a Vietnamese businessman who went missing four years ago.

Minh Phuoc Nguyen, also known as Paul, was last seen driving a hire car from the Hilton Hotel in Sydney's CBD in May 2014.

A search of bushland has been underway at Cordeaux after police received information.

On Tuesday, a number of bones believed to be human were uncovered.

"The bones will be subject to examination by a forensic pathologist and a forensic anthropologist, followed by further analysis, including DNA testing, to determine the identity of the remains," NSW Police said in a statement.

About a dozen forensic officers are continuing to scour the area at Cordeaux, which is in dense bushland owned by water authorities.

They are sifting through ground cover in an area of about 50 square metres, directly next to an easement for a major gas pipeline.

The search of bushland is expected to last a number of days.

Police believe Mr Nguyen was killed in a unit at Dudley Avenue, Bankstown.

Two men have previously been charged in relation to the 50-year-old's murder and police set up Strike Force Awols to investigate.

Casula man Zulfukar Aljubouri, 26, was arrested in May 2015 and last month appeared before the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney.

Aljubouri pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter and unlawfully disposing of a corpse.

His matter is next listed before the same court on August 3.

His co-accused, a Liverpool man, was 19 at the time of the arrest but was underage when the alleged offences occurred.
