Tiny one-street village where no boys have been born for nearly a decade

Residents in a one-street Polish village have been left baffled as to why only girls have been born there for almost a decade.

Miejsce Odrzanskie, which has around 300 residents, last saw the birth of a boy in 2010.

In a bid to boost the village's male population, county mayor Rajmun Frischko, said he will offer a reward to the couple who produces a boy

He has also promised to present the child with "a very special gift" and is considering "naming a street" or "an oak tree" after him.

In almost ten years, 12 girls have been born in the 92-home one-street village.

The lack of male youngsters came to light when the village's junior fire brigade attended competitions with an entirely female squad.

Mr Frischko said doctors and scientists have given him advice on what can be done to solve the low boy birth rate and have offered to conduct research to work out the cause.

Head of the villages mostly female volunteer fire brigade Tomasz Golasz told The First News that it female-only births has been happening for a long time.

He said that he "took a local girl for my wife" and had two girls.

"I would like to have a son but it’s probably unrealistic. My neighbour also tried and has two daughters. I don’t think women give birth to boys here."

The mayor claims he was advised by doctors that a high calcium diet would ensure more boy babies.

Statistically more boys than girls are born in Poland, with 207,000 boys being born in 2017 — compared to 196,000 girls.
