Liverpool is no stranger to bars and pubs, especially when you’re looking for one off the beaten track.
In a city as big and busy as Liverpool there’s no doubt we’ve got a few things hidden up our sleeves including hidden bars, tiny shops and underground tours. One hidden gem you may not have heard of is The Duck & Swagger, based on Jamaica Street.
The pub, which is attached to The Baltic Hotel, opened its doors in December 2021. Owners opened the pub with the idea of creating a traditional looking pub to counter the contemporary Lounge Area and industrial event space, The Parlour.

The small pub caters to Baltic Hotel guests, but has already become a favourite for locals too. The atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly - and there’s even an old school-style jukebox and fruit machine just to finish off the traditional look.
The Duck & Swagger takes its name from an idea one of the owners had - a “scouse duck with attitude”. And if the pub’s logo - created by a local graphic designer - is anything to go by, that’s exactly what they got.
The pub has adopted a ‘no thrills cooking’ approach, serving simple but good quality, locally sourced ‘basket food’ such as burgers, pizzas, soups and sandwiches. It also has a breakfast menu.

The Duck & Swagger also shows all televised football, including Champions League, Europa League, as well as any UFC, Boxing cards and any big race days such as The National, Cheltenham and more. Weekly entertainment at the pub includes a pub quiz every Thursday and live local acts each Sunday.
The pub is expected to announce a number of new developments in the coming months, including outdoor seating and a rooftop bar. On TripAdvisor, the pub has a five star rating and has received a number of ‘excellent’ reviews praising its “fabulous staff” and labelling the venue a “superb pub”.
