A tiny six-week-old kitten was cruelly abandoned next to a busy road in West Lothian.
The Scottish SPCA are now appealing for information as they look to trace those responsible for dumping her on a road between Dechmont and Beecraigs Country Park some time in the last week or so.
They say that due to the kitten's size she could easily have been missed had it not been for an eagle-eyed motorist. She was spotted on Saturday, 21 September.
The kitten is said to be in good condition and is clearly not a feral cat, with animal rescue officer Sarah Auldsmith saying that "she didn't get there by accident".
She said: "The kitten is only around six weeks old and is still very small. She could easily have been missed.
"We are thankful to the member of the public who picked up the female cat and took her home before phoning our animal helpline.
"She is not a feral cat and seems in quite good condition.
"The team at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres is providing her with the care she needs.
"She didn't get there by accident so we would like to find out what happened.
"If anyone has any information, we would urge them to call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999."
