Tiny helpless puppies found in car-boot plastic container after teen stopped for speeding by traffic cops

Seven puppies were rescued by Gardai after being found in a plastic container in the boot of a speeding car.

Gardai made the discovery after pulling over a speeding male driver in his late teens on the M7 on Saturday, August 26.

The seven Pomeranian pups, who were curiously peeking over the container when they were seized, are too young to be separated from their mother just yet.

The young litter, none of whom are microchipped or vaccinated, have been transferred to the care of the Kildare and West Wicklow Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KWWSPCA).

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: "While conducting a speed checkpoint on the M7 in Mayfield, Co. Kildare on Saturday 29th August 2020, Gardaí stopped a car for speeding.

"During a search of the vehicle, seven (7) Pomeranian puppies were discovered in a plastic container in the boot of the car.

"The driver, a male adult aged in his teens, did not have the relevant paperwork to account for the puppies’ welfare and movements across the border.

"None of the dogs were vaccinated or microchipped.

"The dogs were seized under the Animal Health and Welfare Act, 2013 and transferred to the care of the Kildare and West Wicklow Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KWWSPCA).

"A Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued to the driver, a male aged in his teens, in relation to the speeding offence.

"No arrests have been made and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the seizure of the dogs."
