Tiny Duke Street restaurant where breakfasts are 'completely perfect'

It can sometimes feel like a bit of a chore making breakfast in the morning - especially when it's the summer holidays and there’s a million other things to be doing.

For those who fancy a treat to kick off your day, I’d suggest ordering from Lock & Key in Liverpool city centre. The restaurant, which is actually part of a hotel, is based on Duke Street, just a stone’s throw away from Liverpool ONE.

Lock & Key offers plenty of different breakfast options for those who fancy a takeaway treat. Whether it’s a full English, a breakfast bagel or pancakes dripping in Nutella, the restaurant offers a quick and convenient delivery service via UberEats with the click of a button.

With so much to choose from it did take a while to settle on just what we’d be adding to our basket. In the end we decided on The Continental (£8.50), Nutella and Strawberry Pancakes (£8.50) and the Toasted Breakfast Bagel with bacon and egg (£6). The total came to £24.99 with delivery and service fees.

Living in the city centre I wasn’t expecting a long wait for delivery, but I was shocked at how speedy it really was. The food arrived still piping hot and there was (thankfully) no soggy food or freezing cold fatty bacon, it was all cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour.

The Toasted Breakfast Bagel comes with the choice of sausage or bacon for £5 with the option of adding extras such as egg for £1. We opted for bacon and egg and couldn’t have been happier with the choice. Each component was perfectly cooked and the bagel proved the ideal morning pick me up - I’m willing to bet it would cure any hangover, too.

The pancakes came in a large portion, smothered in Nutella and with a large helping of strawberries. The melted chocolate and sweet fruit made the fluffy pancakes just about one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a while.

The Continental from Lock & Key (Liverpool Echo)

The Continental breakfast features cinnamon French toast, a croissant, seasonal fruits, Greek Yoghurt and brie, served with a side of maple syrup. Each component worked wonderfully with the others, offering something different to our usual breakfast choices. The only issue I had was that all the ingredients were piled on top of each other in the box; I’d have preferred things to be separated but it was easily fixed by moving things on to a plate.

With so many options to choose from - and all hitting the spot perfectly - I can definitely see myself trying Lock & Key again soon. The whole experience was completely perfect and I'm looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu.

You can find Lock & Key at 15-17 Duke Street, Liverpool, L1 5AP.
