Tiny Bristol café taken on by new owners

A new café opening in St Paul's will serve an ever-changing menu of dishes from a range of different cuisines.

Russian-born Olesya Bogdanova and her Jamaican mother-in-law Loveta Allison will reopen the site formerly home to Coach House Café, and before that Pear Cafe, as Mama's Way later this month.

Customers can expect to find a different offering each day - although there will be a few staple dishes such as goat curry and chilli con carne.

The café will also stock a selection of Olesya and Loveta's favourite Bristol delicacies, including samosas from the Sweet Mart in Easton and Scotch eggs from Easter Compton Farm Shop.

"We found out the site was up for grabs a few months ago and decided to go for it," said Oleysa, who has previously worked in the kitchens of Pieminister and The Coach & Horses pub in Clifton.

"Loveta cooks the most beautiful Caribbean food and I like to think my food is okay too, so we came up with the idea of joining forces to open our own place.

"We decided to call the café Mama's Way as we're both mothers and our food is quite comforting. We hope the dishes we serve will remind people of their mum's cooking.

"I couldn't think of a better person to go into business with than Loveta and we're really excited to get going. It should be a really interesting mix of nationalities and cuisines."

Oleysa said the dishes that make up the launch menu will be dependent on what produce from local suppliers is freshest at the time.

Mama's Way will initially operate solely as a takeaway after opening next Monday (April 26), but Oleysa hopes to have a few seats inside when indoor hospitality returns on May 17.

The café will be located at Unit 1 Coach House, Upper York St, St Paul's, Bristol BS2 8QN.
