Tiny baby killed in car crash was four-weeks premature and 'shouldn't have been here'

A tiny baby killed in a horrific crash has been named as Ciaran Morris who, his family reveal, was born four-weeks premature.

The two-week-old baby was hit by the car which collided with his pram in the West Midlands.

His parents have also been named as dad Camaron Morris and mum Codie Holyman, both aged 18.

Our sister title The Mirror reports how a family member spoke at the scene in Brownhills, Walsall.

She said: "The baby’s dad is my nephew Camaron Morris and the mum is Codie Holyman.

"They are both 18. I’m going to see him [Camaron] now in hospital. The baby was called Ciaran.

"He was four weeks premature, so he shouldn’t even have been here."

The family have also now issued another statement saying: "We didn't get to keep you for long but we are happy we had the chance to meet you look after you and call you our son."

Cameron and Codie posted adorable pictures of their son online and it’s understood to have been one of the first times that Ciaran had been taken out with his family due to his premature birth and the Covid restrictions.

Police say the tragic death happened after a BMW collided with another car before hitting a pram at around 4pm yesterday.

The two-week-old victim was being pushed along the town's high street by his family, West Midlands Police said.

He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital but sadly died a short time later.

A relative of the baby also suffered a shoulder injury, the force added.

A man, 34, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.

Another woman who came to the scene to lay flowers today said: "I didn’t know them personally but knew of [the family].

"They were really great parents and he was a sweet baby.

"It’s disgusting. He didn’t deserve to die."

A man, who was in tears as he laid a floral tribute, added that it could have been the baby's first walk.

"Yes I know the family and all I can say is they are numb with grief," he said.

"It was maybe the first time they had taken the baby out together and this happens.

"It’s an unimaginable horror they are going through. One second and the most precious thing in their lives is gone."

Another man added: "It’s just awful, no one deserves this.

"I know the family very well and they are a really, really nice family.

"I’m still shocked to hear what’s happened."

Police have been standing guard at the scene of the tragedy this morning.

The metal shutter of the shop where the crash happened was twisted and buckled and bricks remained strewn across the path.

The parents being "hysterical" at the scene while rescue teams desperately tried to save their child.

Sergeant Mark Crozier, of West Midlands Police, said the family was being supported at this "deeply devastating time".

"We're in the process of speaking to witnesses and establishing the circumstances around this collision," he added.

"I would ask anyone who was in the area, and has information which can assist our enquiries, to come forward.

"We understand the shock this will have caused but I would ask people not to speculate on what happened."

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact police ia email, Live Chat or by calling 101.
