Coffee lovers in the North East are set to perk up at news that two local cafes are considered to be among the best in the UK.
The Origami Cafe - a tiny venue in Alnwick, Northumberland - and the Clifton Hotel and Coffee Shop in South Shields have been singled out by retailer Coffee Friend for their top TripAdvisor reviews.
Coffee Friend researched coffee shops with more than 100 customer reviews on the online travel site, looking at their overall ratings.

And The Origami Cafe in Narrowgate, which has space for just four tables, earned five out of five: 136 ratings of 'excellent' out of 147 overall reviews left by happy customers.
The Clifton Coffee Shop, at The Clifton Hotel in Ocean Road, received four-and-a-half out of five, with 228 ratings of excellent out of 294 reviews.
Other cafes which made the list of the 20 top places to go for a coffee include the famous Betty's Tearoom in Harrogate, while a stand-out venue was the Big Moose Coffee Company in Cardiff which earned 287 excellent reviews.
The news will come as a huge boost for the businesses following the challenges of the pandemic.
Aurimas Vainauskas, chief executive of Coffee Friend, said: “The UK is now a nation of coffee lovers and with the country returning to more normal times, we’re helping the people of Britain find the best cafes in the best places.
“Our research has looked at the highest-rated cafes across the country and found some of the better known, and lesser known, joints to grab a favourite drink and a bite to eat.”
