Ray Tindle continues to go against the grain. While other provincial publishers are contracting his company has acquired three weeklies in Essex: the Leigh and Westcliff Times, the Canvey Island and Benfleet Times and the Rayleigh and Eastwood Times. Tindle, 82, now owns more than 200 weeklies across Britain. His profits? About £10m on revenues of £50m. His secret: hyperlocality. (Via FT.com)
