Tina Turner shared how she wanted to be remembered in poignant chat weeks before death

Tina Turner revealed how she wanted to be remembered in an interview conducted just weeks before her death aged 83.

It was announced today that the Proud Mary singer had died "peacefully" at her home in Switzerland following a long illness.

Celebrities, including Naomi Campbell and Gloria Gaynor, paid tribute to the icon on social media after hearing the news.

In April, weeks leading up to Tina's death, she sat down and mulled over how she wanted to be remembered as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll.

When asked by The Guardian how she wanted to be remembered, she said: "As the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. As a woman who showed other women that it is OK to strive for success on their own terms."

In another candid chat, Tina also reflected on her 'full' life.

Tina's last interview took place with British Vogue, where she discussed her secret to her "life well-lived."

"What does well-lived mean?," she pondered during the chat.

"My life has been full, but with lots of sad times that I now forgive and strive to forget."

She added: "Maybe that’s the answer: to keep moving forward, to let go and aim to fill your life with love.

"That is where I am now, and I am grateful."

The news of her death prompted an outpouring of tributes about Tina, whose decades-long career saw her win numerous Grammy Awards and be the subject of a biopic.

More recently, her life was adapted into a jukebox musical – featuring a number of her songs – which debuted at the Aldwych Theatre in London's West End in 2018.

In one of her last posts on Instagram, Tina – who is understood to have had a kidney transplant years ago – marked International World Kidney Day in March.

She wrote: "Today is International World Kidney Day. Why is it important? Because kidneys fail without pain. And that's why I'm telling you today: Show your kidneys love! They deserve it.

"My kidneys are victims of my not realising that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine. I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication.

"For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion. I am therefore delighted to be able to support a new international campaign for kidney health.

"You can read the whole story of my disease on the website www.showyourkidneyslove.com. Here you can find out how your kidneys work, what the risk factors are and how you can keep these important organs healthy. Let’s show our kidneys some love!"
