Tina Fey's smart summer tailoring is the cool but put-together outfit you can carry through to autumn

When it comes to transitional style, it's all about finding the right balance for in-between weather. And as we edge out of summer and into autumn, we're on the hunt for style inspiration. Enter Tina Fey, who has been spotted out and about on the London set of Only Murders In The Building.

Looking polished but cool, the actress was snapped in a pair of navy wide-leg trousers, a striped shirt and an elegant waistcoat, creating a late-summer-friendly suited and booted silhouette that offers just the right amount of warmth for the ever-cooling climes.

To maximise your summer capsule wardrobes, look for easy layerable items, as this will help you adapt to changing weather. Tailoring is set to continue as a key underpinning to seasonal wardrobes, and Fey's waist-nipping waistcoat offered a hip-grazing silhouette that felt balanced and sharp. Her black sock boots were an elegant reminder that our sandals will soon have to go back into our wardrobes.

This waistcoat is given a cool, relaxed edge by its compact knit fabric, which has a softer and more casual finish than traditional tailoring materials. It's still sharp and structured, though, thanks to its V-neck and nipped-in waist.

This Whistles shirt looks uncannily similar to Tina's one, featuring blue and white stripes. With a relaxed silhouette, you can dress it up or down depending on how it's paired.

These Nobody's Child trousers are available in regular and petite sizes. The wide legs add a directional, neat feel thanks to crisp pleats running down their front. They're high-waisted for a leg-elongating effect, too.

Black ankle boots are a must-have autumnal shoe, a polished staple with endless amounts of versatility. This pair from Phase Eight make a great investment, thanks to a sleek shape and on-trend kitten heel.

Like Tina's waistcoat, this one from Next is cut to a relaxed but refined, tailored fit, loose but still flattering. This makes it a great layering piece that's ideal for creating smart workwear ensembles or elevating everyday wear.

These M&S trousers are available in extra-short to extra-long lengths, meaning you can get a perfect, tailored-to-you fit with the style. This will only add to the polished feel of their flattering wide leg fit.

Investing in a waistcoat can open up a variety of styling opportunities for smart casual outfit ideas. In place of a blazer, these sleeveless styles bring a hit of put-togetherness when styled alongside tailored trousers or even jeans, and their structured shape never fails to look smart on those days when it’s too warm to wear a long-sleeved jacket.

Tina’s look is transformed by her pinstriped shirt, which could have felt overwhelming if not for her muted waistcoat, which toned down her ensemble. Finishing off her look with a pair of sleek sock boots to balance out the wide leg of her trousers, for a more casual touch, try teaming wide-leg tailored trousers with your best white trainers, ballet flats or loafers for a similarly smart, flat shoe option.

When we get deeper into autumn, the soft navy of Tina's tailoring would look so chic paired with a trench coat, as the beige colour works beautifully against the deep, rich neutral.
