Timothy Weah suffers hammer blow as former Celtic star manages just 84 minutes game time over the whole season

Former Celtic loanee Timothy Weah ’s injury-ravaged season has been declared over in February.

The US forward joined Lille in a £9million transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last season – only to suffer problems with a thigh muscle.

He managed only three appearances in the first half of this season but made his comeback in the defeat to Marseille at the beginning of this month.

Now Weah has been beset by more woes – this time an issue with his right hamstring – meaning he has played a paltry total of 84 minutes this season.

Lille boss Christophe Galtier confirmed the 20-year-old will not play again in this campaign after going under the knife in Finland.

Galtier said: "Timothy Weah came back today from his operation.

"He is doing well. His season is over, we hope to have him from the beginning of pre-season.”

Weah joined Celtic on loan from the Parisian giants in the January window of 2019. He made an instant impact under Brendan Rodgers before the Irishman left for Leicester.

The attacker, though, found his opportunities more limited under Rodgers’ successor Neil Lennon and left under a cloud over his determination to play for his country and therefore miss the Scottish Cup Final.

Weah revealed last summer: “The gaffer told me it is in the best interest of the team that I collect my things and go home.

“It was a true honour playing for this club and also having the opportunity to interact with legends who paved the way for us.

“I am especially thankful to the Celtic family for giving me the opportunity to show you all what I am capable of doing once given the chance."
