Timothy Fosu-Mensah's Man Utd future in doubt after rejecting Red Devils offer

Timothy Fosu-Mensah's Manchester United future is in doubt after he rejected a new three-and-a-half year deal.

The defender's current contract runs out in the summer and he is attracting interest from abroad.

Marseille and Hertha Berlin are both keen on the 22-year-old who could be available for a small compensation in six months time.

Both clubs are prepared to pay a small fee in January if it means fending off the competition however, reports Sky Sports.

United want to retain Fosu-Mensah's services and have tabled fresh terms that would keep him at Old Trafford until 2024 but will have to come up with an improved offer.

The defender has barely featured this term with his sole Premier League outing coming against Crystal Palace on the opening weekend.

He has played two more times in the Champions League but remains some way down the pecking order.

The Dutchman has enjoyed loan spells away in the capital with Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Fosu-Mensah made his debut as a teenager under Louis van Gaal but didn't make a single appearance for two years.

An ACL injury setting his career back before he was given opportunities last season.

The defender hasn't featured since the opening day defeat by Crystal Palace (PA)

Back in April he spoke defiantly about using the experience to push him on, but minutes haven't come like he perhaps hoped.

He said: "I never seen it coming. I don’t think anyone sees an ACL injury coming.

“But I developed to get my mind stronger. I developed to, yeah, be mentally stronger and to just stay positive because you just have to keep going.

“Things happen in life, it’s the way you react. So, this is my mindset and my mentality, and the club have helped me very well, my physio in Holland has helped me very well to be back and fit and I feel very good and strong.”
