Timothy Castagne eyes Tottenham transfer as Belgium defender hands Arsenal a reality check

Atalanta right back Timothy Castagne says that he could not turn down the chance to join Tottenham if Spurs make a move for his this summer.

The 24-year-old Belgian international has been linked with a move away from Serie A at the end of the season, with PSG and Tottenham said to be interested.

Castagne said in May that he would ‘lead towards England’ if an opportunity arose, but PSG remains an option after Belgian compatriot Thomas Meunier left the Ligue1 champions to join Borussia Dortmund.

“I think the time has come to move on, but I won’t be disappointed if I stay,” Castagne told La Derniere Heure in Belgium.

“I’m very proud of this. It’s proof that hard work pays off. I hope it’s more than just simple interest from them.”

You would think that one possible hurdle in the way of Tottenham would be that Castange was an Arsenal fan growing up, but the defender admits that he is not especially fond of the current side.

“I was especially a fan when Thierry Henry played for them. Now I’m not so much,” he explained.

“You have to be honest with yourself. When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can’t say ‘no’.”
