Timothée Chalamet unveils first look at young Willy Wonka transformation

Timothée Chalamet shared a first look at his magical character Willy Wonka in the new upcoming prequel movie.

The actor, 25, looked every inch the part of Roald Dahl’s character in his trademark top hat, scarf and a crushed velvet berry jacket.

New photographs also revealed a look at Wonka’s special walking cane which featured a present decoration.

He wrote: “The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last... WONKA.”

Already his Instagram post has racked up nearly four million likes.

Wonka will tell the story of young Willy Wonka, his early adventures and reveal how he met the Oompa-Loompas in his life before the chocolate factory.

Mr Chalamet stars in the movie alongside Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman and Keegan-Michael Key.

He takes on the role of Wonka who has previously been played by Gene Wilder in the 1971 adaptation of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2005 version.

Social media was awash with excitement from his 13.6million fans after the actor surprised his loyal admirers with the photograph on Sunday.

Among the sea of comments, actress Rebel Wilson wrote: “All about this x.”

Fans added: “OH MY GOD.”

“PLEAS he FITS SO WELL FOR THIS.”

“I’m going to cry.”

“WOAH.”

“OMG TIMOTHEE WONKA IM SO EXCITED.”

It comes as the actor opened up about taking on the role.

At first, he admitted: “I felt out of my league. Like I was desecrating history!”

He told TIME magazine: “It’s not mining the darker emotions in life. It’s a celebration of being off-center and of being OK with the weirder parts of you that don’t quite fit in.”

The musical is set for release in cinemas on March 17, 2023.
