Timothée Chalamet’s Dune is the latest film to be delayed until 2021

Timothée Chalamet’s Dune is the latest film to be delayed until 2021.

The sci-fi epic directed by Dennis Villeneuve had been due for release in December, but has now been pushed back to October 1 next year.

It comes after the forthcoming James Bond film No Time To Die was delayed for a second time, prompting Cineworld to close all of its theatres in the UK and Ireland and casting doubt on the future of the industry.

Dune is another high-profile movie which fans will have to wait 12 months to see, with more likely to follow.

The film starring Chalamet, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and more is a new take on Frank Herbert's 1965 novel of the same name, which was previously adapted for film by David Lynch in 1984.

The story follows a hero seeking to liberate the arid planet of Arrakis, which is the source of the precious drug "spice".

Anticipation for Dune was high, with the first trailer getting fans excited back in September.
