Timo Werner unfollows RB Leipzig after dig at Liverpool

Timo Werner has unfollowed his current club RB Leipzig on Twitter after they used an image of him to have a cheeky dig at Liverpool's first Premier League defeat of the season.

Following a confirmation tweet from Liverpool's official account of their 3-0 defeat to Watford – the team's first Premier League loss for 44 games and 422 days – RB Leipzig's official account replied with a GIF showing Werner looking at a mobile phone with a surprised expression on his face.

The account 'LFC Fans Corner' replied to Leipzig declaring: “This is the weirdest transfer announcement I've seen, but I'll take it”, which the Bundesliga outfit followed up with another tweet showing Werner slapping his forehead.

The 23-year-old, whose personal account on Twitter has 22,000 followers, has now stopped following RB Leipzig, or indeed anyone else, and now currently follows zero other accounts.

It is unclear whether Leipzig's tweets were the reason behind Werner's unfollowing of their account but the timing of his 'clearing of the decks' on Twitter will no doubt have tongues wagging.

The prolific striker has been heavily-tipped to move to Anfield this summer and has spoken favourably about the prospect of a transfer to the Premier League in general and the Reds in particular.

Jurgen Klopp was asked about Werner's remarks on Friday and played a straight bat but admitted it was better to have players from other clubs say positive things about your team than negative ones.

Werner has 27 goals in 34 games so far this season but after being taken off 71 minutes into Leipzig's 1-1 draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, he has netted just once in his last six outings.
