Timo Werner transfer set to accelerate Chelsea star's departure this summer

Timo Werner could be the marquee signing Frank Lampard is looking for this summer but it is set to mark the exit of another Chelsea player.

Michy Batshuayi has struggled to play a big part over his time with the Blues, being little more than a substitute since joining the club in 2016.

The highlight of his time was the winning goal at West Bromwich Albion to seal the 2016/17 Premier League title, while this season he netted in the 1-0 victory at Ajax.

However, when Batshuayi has been given the rare chance to start under Antonio Conte or Frank Lampard, he has failed to take his chance leading the line.

The 26-year-old has also been shipped out on loan three times, having a good spell at Borussia Dortmund, failing at Valencia and showing some good signs at Crystal Palace.

But his time at Stamford Bridge has stuttered and he is likely to be one of the first on the chopping block when players exit the club this summer.

The Blues bought the Belgian international from Marseille for around £33million, and for the Blues it might mean that they have to cut their losses if they want him off the books.

Several clubs have been linked with a move for the striker, with West Ham and Crystal Palace keeping tabs on his future.

With Werner and Tammy Abraham, the Blues could have a potent strikeforce, while the Blues took up the option of Olivier Giroud's extra year in his contract.

That doesn't mean Giroud won't move on this summer, however, and when Werner is over the line the World Cup winner might think he needs to move for more playing time.

But to get some more money back from the Werner transfer, Batshuayi's could be a useful fee to add to the coffers for any more signings.

Werner is expected to be a Chelsea player ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, and with his goalscoring history he will be the signing Lampard is looking for.

However, for Batshuayi his time with the Blues is expected to come to an end this summer, and they will be looking to make it a swift sale.
