Timo Werner told to snub Liverpool FC and move to Manchester United by Owen Hargreaves

Owen Hargreaves believes Timo Werner should snub a move to Liverpool in favour of joining Manchester United.

The 24-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to England, with the forward said to be favouring a move to Anfield.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with Werner, though, with his contract at RB Leipzig set to expire in 2023.

Werner has enjoyed his best goal-scoring season to date, netting 24 goals - and scoring a hat-trick against Mainz in this afternoon's Bundesliga match.

Whilst a move to Liverpool seems a logical fit, given the German connection with Jurgen Klopp, Hargreaves believes Werner would be a better fit at Old Trafford as he isn't guaranteed to start at Anfield.

"Well, he's not going to get past Bobby Firmino, who is one of my favourite players to watch," the former United midfielder said during commentary on BT Sport.

"I think that's the thing. Wherever he goes, he has to play. With the way (Manchester) United play right now, I could see him there. They need a number nine.

"Chelsea could be a good fit, I just think he's perfect for Liverpool in a way but he's not guaranteed to start. If he's happy rotating in the front three then yes, he'd be a great fit for Jurgen Klopp.

"He works hard, he's a good goal-scorer, he's a good teammate, all those things they need but he's not going to play ahead of Roberto Firmino, I just don't see that. He's too good in that team."
