Michael Ballack has praised Chelsea's decision to move for Timo Werner and believes that the RB Leipzig striker will fit in perfectly at Stamford Bridge.
Standard Sport understands Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal worth £53 million is close with Werner set to sign a five-year deal worth £200,000-a-week, even though Leipzig have denied receiving an official bid.
The 24-year-old is one of Europe's most prolific marksmen, with 31 goals in all competitions this season for the Bundesliga outfit.
Liverpool had appeared to be in pole position to land Werner but the Reds opted against following up their long-standing interest, leaving the Blues in pole position to snap up the Germany international.
And Ballack, who spent four years at Stamford Bridge as a player, has backed the Blues' spending to return to the top of English football and thinks Werner will have no problems in slotting into the side.
"I think it's a good decision for both sides," he told Sky Germany.
"For Timo, because he fits there, because the way he plays football suits him.
"I think that, with Chelsea, he decided for a club where he has a better chance of playing, which is very important to him.
"The team will be rebuilt, it will certainly be strengthened and Chelsea will spend a lot of money to compete at the top again.
"A good young team is being built there, it is very promising. He [will be] playing together with even better players than in Leipzig."
