Timo Werner to Chelsea: RB Leipzig chief hands Blues blow in race with Liverpool for star

RB Leipzig's head of sport and development Ralf Rangnick has stated that Timo Werner would be suited to a move to Liverpool over all others this summer.

The 24-year-old has had a superb season over the 2019/20 campaign, having netted 21 goals and adding another seven assists.

The Germany forward is being linked with a move away from Leipzig this summer, and has been heavily tipped to make a switch to the Premier League.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for him, while Real Madrid and Manchester United are also reportedly keen on the striker.

But Rangnick believes Werner's game would be best suited to playing at Liverpool and under Jurgen Klopp if he is going to switch to England.

“In the end, it is up to Timo to decide what he wants to do. Here in Leipzig he knows what he has. Here he can play Champions League again next year. The question is: where does he get the most playing time?" Rangnick told Bild.

"And Timo is someone who also needs trust. He only gets that if the respective coach knows him and relies on him.

"The league is less important. But the club. From a purely hypothetical point of view, I would better see him in good hands with a club that is not necessarily defined by ball possession football. Since Timo has made progress under Julian Nagelsmann.

"His most important weapons, however, are the quick switch-over movement and his powerful finish. Therefore, he would rather fit a club like Liverpool, which is similar to our style of play. But I would prefer it to stay here.

"The best place to see him is where a team switches quickly or quickly counterpresses after losing a ball. This is how Timo was trained at VfB Stuttgart in the next generation and has matured with us in the past four years to the player he is today."
