New Chelsea signing Timo Werner has challenged himself to make a name for himself this season ahead of the new Premier League campaign getting underway.
The Blues will kick-off the 2020/21 campaign away to Brighton & Hove Albion in just under two weeks time, with the club aiming to mount a Premier League title charge this season following a busy summer of transfer activity.
Chelsea have drafted in five new players so far this summer, including Werner from RB Leipzig in a deal believed to be worth around the £50million mark.
The striker, who is currently away on international duty with Germany, is, you could argue, the Blues' statement signing of the summer so far, with the 24-year-old having developed into one of the most highly respected strikers in Europe over the last few seasons.
Last season, Werner netted 34 goals in 45 games in all competitions, which highlighted just how clinical he is front of goal.
And, speaking during a press conference ahead of Germany's tussle with Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday, Werner has admitted that he is determined to replicate the same kind of form for Chelsea this term.
"I think that’s more of an incentive," said Werner, as quoted by the Metro. "What the club demands of me is no less than I demand of myself.
"The club has brought me to score goals and after 28 [Bundesliga] goals for Leipzig I have not come to London to say a few is enough for me now.
"I want to prove it there as well as at Leipzig. For me, this feels less like pressure, but also from the club side more like anticipation that I can help celebrate successes."
Though Werner is confident that he can find the net on a consistent basis for the Blues this term, he has conceded that he will have to improve the physical side to his game to cope with the demands that the Premier League will throw at him.
"The defenders in England are more robust than in the Bundesliga," added Werner. "It’s very, very, much more physical in the Premier League.
"I have to develop myself and take on this physical aspect. English football is very fast.
"That suits me because I am too have reasonably good speed."
Werner has so far made one appearance for Chelsea, scoring their only goal in a 1-1 draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.
