Chelsea striker Timo Werner has been warned that he could be ‘moved on’ by the Blues should his inconsistent form continue.
The forward, who arrived from RB Leipzig last summer, has not displayed his best form since becoming a Chelsea player.
The 25-year-old has netted on just 14 occasions for the Blues in all competitions, with just seven of those coming in the Premier League. It is certainly a huge decrease on the 28 strikes he scored for Leipzig during his final season in the Bundesliga.
In fact, amid the German’s disappointing record, the Blues elected to go out and bolster their frontline once more with the £98m club record signing of Romelu Lukaku.
Werner did net his first goal of the season at the weekend in Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Southampton at Stamford Bridge but former Blues forward Tony Cascarino has suggested that might not be enough for Werner to convince Thomas Tuchel of his long-term future.
Writing in his column in The Times, Cascarino said: “Thomas Tuchel’s comment that there were “a lot of things to improve” for Timo Werner after his goal against Southampton was telling.
“Chelsea fans have been loyal to misfiring centre forwards, such as Andriy Shevchenko and Fernando Torres, in the past and the same has been true of Werner, but strikers cannot be simply OK at big clubs.
“The German cannot continue to miss so many big chances, because otherwise — just as with Shevchenko and Torres — the club will move him on.”
Amid his inconsistent displays for Chelsea, Werner has already been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
A return to the Bundesliga looks the most likely prospect at the current time, with Bayern Munich reportedly emerging as candidates for his signature should the German be allowed to leave Chelsea at any point in the future.
