Timo Werner sends message to Kai Havertz as he completes £72m Chelsea transfer

After months of negotiations and talks, Kai Havertz is finally a Chelsea player.

The Blues officially unveiled Havertz as their sixth big-name signing of the summer on Friday evening, bringing an end to the speculation surrounding his future.

He arrives at Chelsea for an initial fee of £72million, but it could rise to £90million with add-ons. He follows Hakim Ziyech, fellow countryman Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva in having joined the Blues this summer.

His arrival at Stamford Bridge will no doubt be a welcome relief to head coach Frank Lampard, who has been tracking the Germany international for several months.

When Kai Havertz could join up with the Chelsea squad

On sealing his switch to Stamford Bridge, Havertz told Chelsea's club website: "I am very happy and proud to be here.

"For me, it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea and I can’t wait to meet all the players and the trainers.

"Yeah, I am very happy to be here!"

Whilst his arrival at Stamford Bridge has not just gone down well with the supporters, of course, it is also some of Havertz's new teammates that are delighted with his arrival.

Shortly after the Blues, who kick-off their 2020/21 Premier League campaign a-week-on-Monday against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, had officially announced the signing of the attacking-midfielder, fellow new summer recruit Werner, who had recently been with Havertz on international duty for Germany, sent a message to his new club teammate, welcoming him to the Premier League.

Werner said: "Welcome to Chelsea, my friend!"

With both Werner and Havertz having lit up the Bundesliga in recent seasons, Lampard will be hoping they can replicate that again this time around and mount a genuine Premier League title charge.
