Timo Werner scores less than four minutes into Chelsea debut with help from Hakim Ziyech

Timo Werner has opened his Chelsea account less than four minutes into his debut following excellent work from Hakim Ziyech.

Two of the Blues' main summer signings are in action during their pre-season friendly against Brighton at the Amex.

And they haven't taken look to team up and open the scoring.

Ziyech, who was signed from Ajax several months ago, spotted an excellent run made by Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The academy graduate nodded down, albeit not cleanly, but the ball fell perfectly for Werner who calmly slotted home.

The German scored more than 30 times for RB Leipzig last term and has picked up where he left off.

Werner is expected to be among Chelsea's leading marksman and has laid down an early marker.

Frank Lampard was alternating between Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham last term but now has three options to choose from.

Chelsea have started with a near full strength XI as they take on the Seagulls.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante are the midfielder trio behind the front three who teamed up so effectively to open the scoring.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has been heavily linked with a move away, starts in goal behind a central defensive pairing of Andreas Christensen and Jake Clarke-Slater.

Marcos Alonso and Reece James are the two fullbacks.

Goalscorer Werner, who can play centrally or out wide, has opened up on discussions with Lampard regarding his role going forward.

"He was the main point; we talked a lot about things like system, like how he wants to play and sees me playing, and how the system fits to me," Werner previously said.

"He is a really nice guy who not only told me what he wants from me as a player because he wants to help me as a guy."
