Timo Werner's £53m transfer could be imminent as Chelsea open talks for Kai Havertz alternative

Here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

New Premier League matchday rules

The Premier League have announced the measures that will be implemented at their matches from Wednesday to minimise the risk of COVID-19 outbreaks.

Chelsea return to action in the coming days after three months without playing any competitive fixtures.

Now the Premier League have laid out exactly what measures will be in place for the matches to take place.

It begins with the teams travelling to the matches. Before departure, all players must complete relevant checks and report any symptoms.

The Premier League explains that team travel can be via car, coach, plane or train, but social distancing must be applied in all of these transport modes, ensuring appropriate space between occupied seats and that full hygiene measures are observed.

Big Werner hint

It would appear that the biggest hint confirming Timo Werner's £53m Chelsea transfer has been dropped.

German publication Bild is reporting that Werner has been removed from RB Leipzig's Champions League squad and will take no further part in this year’s competition for his current club.

The report goes on to add that the reason behind the move is because the striker will be a Chelsea player by the time the competition resumes in the summer. It seems a transfer is imminent.

Champions League knockout games are set to be played in a 12-day condensed tournament in Lisbon in August.

Leipzig have already booked their place in the quarter-finals after comfortable overcoming Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16.

While Chelsea have it all to do in their last 16 second-leg clash with Bayern Munich, after being beaten 3-0 by German giants at Stamford Bridge.

Gilmour right to trust Lampard

Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton says Billy Gilmour is in good hands under Frank Lampard's guidance.

The young Scot scored a brace in the 7-1 friendly win against Warburton’s side on Sunday afternoon Chelsea warmed up for the Premier League’s return.

"What a talent. I think Scotland have a future world-class midfield player, I really do," Warbuton told the Daily Mail. "I think he is going to keep on improving because he is in a great environment with Frank (Lampard) and Jody (Morris, assistant manager) and the players at Chelsea.

"I very much hope he can continue that progress because, if so, Scotland truly will have a world-class midfield player there.

"Billy Gilmour is right up there with him [Wilshere]. Jack has been unlucky in terms of being hit by injuries, but Billy is in a great environment.

"If you love the game of football, his development is great to see. It really is."

Chelsea enter negotiations for Havertz alternative

Chelsea have reportedly entered into negotiations with Brentford star Said Benrahma.

With Hakim Ziyech's signature already secured and a deal for Werner getting closer, the Blues haven't stopped shopping as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.

Another player being linked with a move to west London is Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz who could cost in the region of £70m-£75m in the summer transfer window.

In an attempt to save money, the Blues are said to have turned their attentions to Benrahma. The Brentford ace has been in stunning form in the Championship this season and would undoubtedly be an exciting - if not surprising - addition to the Blues.

RMC claim Chelsea have formally expressed an interest in the 24-year-old, who is valued at around £31million.

Would his arrival mean the end of a chase for Havertz, though?
