Timo Werner makes Chelsea transfer revelation following £47.7m move

Chelsea summer signing Timo Werner has revealed he had doubts over joining the Blues after watching them capitulate in the Champions League.

Werner arrived on a fee just shy of £50million this summer from RB Leipzig as part of Chelsea's spending spree which has so far totalled more than £200million.

But he might not have made the switch to Stamford Bridge had he listened to his instinctive concerns.

After watching Chelsea lose 3-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season, the German striker has admitted he doubted a move to Chelsea.

“I would be lying if I said it wasn't like that," he told SportBild.

"The 3-0 home defeat of Chelsea in the first leg against Bayern hadn't exactly spoken in favour of going to London.

"I have to say that openly, because with Leipzig we always played very good and close games against Bayern."

But Werner took comfort from the fact Chelsea's weaknesses were exposed and that they were active in addressing the issues during the transfer window.

He added: "By showing Chelsea the weak points, the club was able to work on the pieces of the puzzle in order to catch up with the future Champions League winners Bayern.

"That's what Chelsea did."
