Timo Werner has Jurgen Klopp point to prove as Frank Lampard has four tactical options

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Saturday, June 6.

Timo Werner will have a point to prove after Chelsea transfer

Jamie Redknapp has hailed Chelsea’s move for Timo Werner and believes the striker will be keen to prove Liverpool wrong after they failed to agree a deal.

Werner, 24, has long been linked to the Reds and spoken positively about not just the club but also Jurgen Klopp. The Blues look set to secure him, however, after agreeing a deal this week, according to reports.

The German international has scored 25 Bundesliga goals this season, and Redknapp believes his signing will prove a masterstroke by the Blues.

Alan Smith breaks down Chelsea's move for Timo Werner and who they may look to next

“It’s a great signing,” Redknapp told football.london. “They have got Ziyech as well, and he looks like a really good signing as well. Frank is building a really good, young side.

“Tammy [Abraham] has done well upfront, but he can play in any of the three front positions. I think it just shows that they are doing good things at Chelsea. Frank has done a great job, especially if they get top four.

“If the deal is done without knowing that Chelsea are going to be in the Champions League, then it shows you that he was very impressed with what Frank and Chelsea are doing right now.

“He will probably look at that Chelsea front line, with Willian and Pedro out of contract this summer, and think that he can be a regular in that team.

The former Liverpool midfielder also had some strong words for his former club and their decision not to pursue Werner, and you can read his full quotes on the situation here.
