Timo Werner explains how Frank Lampard will chase down Liverpool and Manchester City

Timo Werner admits he has had conversations with Frank Lampard on how Chelsea can catch Liverpool and Manchester City next season.

The Blues finished the 2019/20 Premier League campaign 33 points behind the Reds, who strolled to their first league title in 30 years.

Chelsea have strengthened hugely in the transfer market already, with the signing of Kai Havertz expected in the next few days.

Many now believe that the Blues can really mount a title challenge in the upcoming campaign, with a top four finish almost guaranteed.

And Werner revealed that since he has been with the side that Lampard has been discussing with him how they can bridge that gap.

"The work with the manager recently has been really good," Werner told the Chelsea website.

"He’s been showing and explaining to the whole team, not just me, what we can do on the pitch and how to improve on last season.

"He’s been great to work with and he’s been discussing his plans for the future, and how we want to battle with teams like Man City and Liverpool.

"I think Chelsea is a big club and with this team that we have, I think we can reach a new level. We have some very good players here and the manager is there to show us the way, and help us improve.

"We’ve worked a lot on tactical things, as well as our strength and fitness, to make sure we are ready for the start of the season."
