Timo Werner drops major Liverpool hint amid injury mystery after Chelsea debut

Timo Werner has hinted he'll play through the pain barrier to face Liverpool next weekend after picking up an injury on his Chelsea debut.

The Germany international completed the full 90 minutes in the Blues' 3-1 opening day victory at Brighton, but had ice strapped his leg when conducting his post-match interview having suffered a dead leg when winning a penalty midway through the first half.

At one stage earlier this summer, the striker looked certain to join Liverpool from RB Leipzig only for the Reds to never open talks with the Bundesliga outfit as the financial ramifications of the coronvirus pandemic forced them to alter their transfer plans.

Liverpool travel to Chelsea on Sunday and despite questions marks over whether the 24-year-old will be fit to play, Werner stressed his desire to face the club he could have joined when speaking after his Blues debut.

"It (the leg injury) was from the penalty," he admitted. "The knee of the goalkeeper hit me directly in the muscle and it went very hard.

"For the rest of the game, it hurt a lot and I couldn’t do some movements because the muscle went very hard, but at the end, I’m happy that we won.

"I don’t care about this. We played a good game today, we did well. I’m happy that I got the penalty because I think it's very important for our game.

"Of course (I'll be fit to play Liverpool). In games like this, you're always fit."
