Timo Werner could have an unexpected new partner as Marina Granovskaia set Chelsea transfer task

Chelsea have moved quickly to add to their squad ahead of next season, with several additions already confirmed.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has given a clear indication that he feels his side needs an injection of quality in key areas, and the club hierarchy have obliged with two key signings.

Morocco international Hakim Ziyech has arrived from Ajax to add another creative option to Chelsea's midfield, whilst a deal to sign striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig has also been struck.

Despite heavy links to Liverpool, Chelsea won the race for the Germany forward after activating his £53million release clause in June.

Along with Werner and Ziyech, talks are also underway to add Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz to complement Chelsea's already impressive array of attacking talent.

The Blues' forward line appears to be nearing its completion ahead of the 2020/21 season, but according to reports, Chelsea are not done yet and are still keen on signing another centre-forward this summer

Football Insider claim that Lampard has requested that the club signs another quality striker to complement the existing options.

Chelsea already have Werner, Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi, but the latter is expected to leave this summer.

Giroud displaced Abraham as Lampard's preferred first choice striker towards the end of the season, but the Frenchman's deal at Stamford Bridge expires next summer, and Werner's arrival could see him pushed down the pecking order.

The Blues activated a one-year extension to Abraham's contract last month, but negotiations are still ongoing over a new deal for the England striker, with reports claiming the forward wants parity with Callum Hudson-Odoi's wages.

Speaking in July, Lampard reiterated that there is no rush regarding the 22-year-old academy graduate's future at Stamford Bridge.

"I don't want to get into clauses, that could open me up to many questions but I've said he's not at a critical stage of his contract," Lampard said.

"He needs to focus on playing and there will be plenty of time to sit down after [the season ends]."
