Timo Werner could get his preferred shirt number at Chelsea once summer transfer is sealed

Chelsea are close to a deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner after holding extensive talks with the German club.

The Blues are keen to strengthen their attack in the summer transfer window after missing out on a forward in the January transfer window.

Werner had been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but football.london understands Frank Lampard's side are in pole position to close a deal.

The Blues are ready to activate the Germany striker's €55million release clause before it expires on June 15, and are in negotiations over personal terms, with a five-year deal expected to be offered.

But which numbers would be available for Werner to take, if as expected, he completes his move to Stamford Bridge?

Danny Drinkwater has been taking the number six number recently, but he has been out on loan to Burnley and Aston Villa and is unlikely to be part of the future plans.

This number could be hot property once again this summer if Willian does leave the club when his contract runs out.

Werner could ask for it, however Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic could all lay claim to taking it.

No. 11

Another number which might be free is Pedro’s number 11, with the Spaniard another set to leave when his contract expires.

However, once again it's a number which would be hot property for Chelsea's new signings - especially Werner.

The German currently wears the shirt number at RB Leipzig, and he could well demand the same once his move to Stamford Bridge is completed.

No. 14

That number has been Tiemoue Bakayoko’s since joining the club, however with a couple of loan spells away it should be free.

The midfielder is unlikely to be part of Lampard’s plans.

No. 16

Kenedy is another player whose future will likely be away from Chelsea, having been on loan this season with Getafe.
