Timo Werner could get his dream Chelsea shirt number next season as transfer finally confirmed

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Werner had been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but Frank Lampard's side have won the race for the Germany international's signature.

The striker will remain at Leipzig for the rest of the Bundesliga season before officially completing his move to Stamford Bridge in July, subject to passing a medical examination.

In a statement on the official Chelsea website, the Germany international said: "I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club.

Deloitte predicts Premier League clubs will lose £1bn revenue this season

"I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart.

"I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us."

But which numbers would be available for Werner to take once he joins up with his new teammates in west London?

No. 6

Danny Drinkwater has been taking the number six number recently, but he has been out on loan to Burnley and Aston Villa and is unlikely to be part of the future plans.

No. 10

This number could be hot property once again this summer if Willian does leave the club when his contract runs out.

Werner could ask for it, however Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic could all lay claim to taking it.

No. 11

Another number which might be free is Pedro’s number 11, with the Spaniard another set to leave when his contract expires.

However, once again it's a number which would be hot property for Chelsea's new signings - especially Werner.

The German currently wears the shirt number at RB Leipzig, and he could well demand the same once his move to Stamford Bridge is completed.

No. 14

That number has been Tiemoue Bakayoko’s since joining the club, however with a couple of loan spells away it should be free.

The midfielder is unlikely to be part of Lampard’s plans.

No. 16

Kenedy is another player whose future will likely be away from Chelsea, having been on loan this season with Getafe.
