A few years ago, I used to have an obsession with Tom Gates and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. If you like these types of books, you’ll love Timmy Failure! This book is about Timmy, a boy detective. He has seen every type of offence known to mankind and he knows how to deal with them.
So, when Timmy is told he has a mystery on his hands, he feels confident about solving the case. When Rollo, Timmy’s best friend, reveals that the culprit is Molly Moskins, no stranger to crime, he believes him.
Timmy’s mum decides to take him and his stepfather, Doorman Dave, on a holiday to Chicago. When they arrive at their hotel, Timmy finds out that Molly is going to be there too.
One night, when Timmy is forced to share a room with Molly, he realises that she cannot be the culprit because she is a thoughtful and honest person. Timmy and Molly then set off on a mission together across the country to find out who the culprit is. Will he or she be lurking nearby, or halfway across America?
I would give this book five out of five, because it is an imaginative, humorous and at times thrilling book. The cartoons helped me keep track of the story and provided me with even more giggles! I thoroughly enjoyed how serious Timmy was compared to Molly who was bouncy, energetic and outgoing.
I think the moral of the story for Timmy and perhaps all of us is not to judge a book by its cover, because what’s underneath could be a lot more interesting!
