Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made by Stephan Pastis - review

Stephan Pastis, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made

Timmy Failure is the founder, president and CEO of the unfortunately named Total Failure, inc. detective agency. Together with his business partner in solving crime, Total the polar bear, Timmy solves all the mysteries in the neighbourhood. But now his reign as best detective is being threatened by Corrina Corrina, a girl with a fancy office and all the latest tech. Not to mention he has lost his Mum's fancy new Segway! How will Timmy handle his most important case yet?

This book is very funny. Timmy just can't solve a crime and when the answer is right in front of his face, he still doesn't see it. This, combined with his utter belief that he is THE BEST, leads to some hilarious moments. Every time he does something wrong he is so self-assured that he can't admit it. This book is up there with the best in terms of funniness, and provides a great antidote to all the fiction for older children coming out at the moment. I'm not saying that all the realistic, emotional stories are bad. What I am saying is that this book provides welcome comic relief. The illustrations make the book even better, and funnier, and the first person style makes Timmy's headstrong, serious character leap off the page, and in every situation, he is trying to make wisecracks and be realistic, which is brilliant against a background of chaos. My only complaint is that I want more!

I recommend this book to anyone aged 8+ in need of a good laugh! 5 Stars!
