A Kansas tourist has been hit by a stray bullet near New York’s Time Square, police have said.

A 44-year-old man who was visiting the city from Kansas was shot shortly after 2am on Wednesday, a police spokesperson said.

Police do not believe the man who was shot was the intended target, the spokesperson added.

The shooting took place near West 38th Street and Eighth Avenue and the man was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is stable, police said.

The New York Daily News reported that the victim told police he attended Tuesday’s Mets-Phillies game in Philadelphia and then travelled back to New York.
