Times Square crash: Video shows police arresting man after car ploughs into crowd

Video footage has emerged of New York police arresting a man in Times Square after a car ploughed into pedestrians.

The short clip shows a chaotic scene with around a dozen officers marching the man down the street.

With his arms held behind his back, he is bundled into a waiting police car.

An NYPD official told the Associated Press (AP) that the 26-year-old driver, named as Richard Rojas from the Bronx, was taken into custody after the crash at lunchtime on Thursday and is being tested for alcohol.

The official also told AP he had a history of drink driving.

Police do not suspect a link to terrorism.

Television images taken at the scene showed people being taken away on stretchers.

The car came to rest with two of its wheels in the air, leaning on a lamppost and steel barriers intended to block vehicles from getting onto the pavement of one of the city’s most iconic locations.
