'Times are really difficult' pleads Edinburgh pub owners after beer garden trashed by vandals

Edinburgh pub owners have been left shocked after vandals, branded "disgusting" by locals, trashed their beer garden.

Colinton Inn, in the south west of the city, was targeted this week as outdoor tables and benches were overturned and smashed.

Taking to social media, the pub owner slammed the "mindless nonsense when all of us are trying to get by in these odd times".

A post on the pub's Facebook read: "Shocked! So times are really difficult, the hospitality industry is creaking and toiling but we are all trying to hold it together whilst we have to stay closed in the hope that we are somehow able to open again one day?

"So in our lovely leafy suburb in the middle of our little village this is how we are supported by some?"

"Needless to say this is obviously a minority and thank you again all our fab [sic] supporters for your constant good thoughts", they added.

The hospitality industry in the central belt took a major hit after it previously had to close throughout much of October.

Under Scotland's new five tier system, pubs, bars and restaurants have been allowed to reopen until 6pm but cannot sell alcohol.

One local said: "Good grief. Why on earth would anyone, just anyone, do this?

"Hope they are found and you can get some recompensation to sort this out. Outrageous."

"Mindless idiots! Hope they get caught", blasted another.

One person added: "I hope there’s a few properties with CCTV that can help catch the muppets."
