TimeLine Theatre receives $1.5 million in state arts funding

This vacant warehouse building in Uptown will be the future home of TimeLine Theatre.

TimeLine Theatre Company on Monday announced it is set to receive $1.5 million in capital fund allocations from the recently passed Illinois General Assembly’s capital bill.

The funding will go toward the conversion of a warehouse at 5033-5035 N. Broadway into the company’s new live performing arts space.

“I’m delighted to welcome TimeLine Theatre Company to Uptown,” said state Sen. Heather Steans, credited by TimeLine as being a key advocate along with state Rep. Greg Harris in supporting the theater’s move to Uptown and the arts community in general. “With their distinguished history as one of Chicago’s leading theaters, TimeLine will be a wonderful addition to the cultural vibrancy and economic vitality of the north side of Chicago.”

The non-profit TimeLine purchased the vacant moving/storage facility at Broadway and Argyle in 2018.

The new theater facility will take three years to complete. Until then, TimeLine will continue to make its performance home at the Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ, 615 W. Wellington, in Lake View.
