Timeline of deadly Plymouth massacre as shooter peppered passers-by with bullets killing 5

Chaos and terror ripped through a usually quiet area of Plymouth after a gunman began opening fire yesterday evening.

The morning after shooter Jake Davison began unloading a firearm in Keyham, killing five people and then himself, a full picture of the bloody events is continuing to emerge.

After the first gunshots were heard yesterday evening terrified neighbours urged one another to stay indoors on social media.

Their pleas prompted fierce speculation online as Keyham locals and those with loved ones in the area rushed to find out whether the grim rumours were true.

It wasn't until around 9pm last night - roughly three hours after the incident took place - that Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that several lives had been lost.

While the exact way in which events unfolded will come to light in greater detail in the days and weeks ahead, this is the timeline of the killings as we currently understand it.

The first shots are fired

Shortly after 6pm neighbours heard shouting followed by what sounded like fireworks or gunshot out in the street.

Eyewitness Sharron, who lives behind the home where the killings began, heard yelling voices before three or four shots rang out.

Moments later the shooter kicked in the door of a house and randomly started unloading his firearm, she said.

Police confirmed today that a woman, who was known to the gunman, was killed in a home on the street.

Sharon told The Times that the gunman then opened fire on a girl who looked about five-years-old while dressed in black and grey and armed with what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon.

Police later confirmed that the girl was shot in the street, along with a male relative of hers.

Davison then ran along the street wielding the firearm and firing wildly at passers-by.

Passers-by are shot in the street

He shot two residents as he went, a man and woman, who are recovering in hospital, police said today.

Footage that would later be circulated on social media before its original poster took it down appeared to show a bloodied body on the pavement next to a police officer who was urging people off camera to leave.

It was at this point that witness Robert Pinkerton turned a corner and "bumped into a bloke with a shotgun" in the street, but managed to "swerve" out of the way when he saw the firearm.

The 54-year-old then spotted another man helping an injured woman who was lying in the doorway of a hairdressers, he told the BBC.

Leaving a trail of destruction behind him, Davison made his way to a nearby park.

There he carried on firing at people caught up in the mayhem, including a man who died.

Another woman was shot moments later and lost her life in hospital that evening.

After randomly firing at and injuring several other terrified passers-by, he then turned the gun on himself just after 6pm yesterday.

Witnesses told police that he was wielding a pump-action shotgun.

Police arrive at the scene

Devon and Cornwall Police announced today that they received reports of a "serious firearms incident" in Biddick Drive, Keyham, at 6.11pm.

Multiples members of the public had called 999.

Six minutes later a huge emergency service presence was on the scene, including armed police and three air ambulances.

The South Western Ambulance Service also sent hazardous area response teams, multiple ambulances, air ambulances, doctors and senior paramedics to the scene.

Two women and two men were found dead at the scene and the suspected gunman was also found dead.

A third woman, who was treated at the scene with gunshot wounds, later died in hospital.

It later emerged that one of those killed was a "small child" aged under 10, according to local MP Luke Pollard.
