Timeline after Parliament Street in Temple Bar was closed to traffic due to fire

One of the city centre's busiest streets in the heart of Temple Bar came to a standstill today.

Parliament Street was shut off to traffic early this evening when a fire broke out in one of the buildings.

The incident unfolded at around 4.30pm when a fire broke out in an extraction system in one of the restaurants.

As a result, smoke travelled into the apartments above and the building had to be evacuated.

Dublin Fire Brigade were called, and four engines, a turntable ladder and two officers responded.

Gardai were also called to the scene to close off the road.

Dublin Fire Brigade said: "This afternoon, Firefighters fought a fire in the extraction system of a restaurant on Parliament Street. The residential building above became smoke logged and an evacuation had commenced prior to our arrival. Parliament Street was closed for a time. There were no injuries."
