Timelapse video shows Nottingham city centre on night before Tier 2 lockdown

This timelapse video shows the ghostly-silent streets of Nottingham city centre the night before Tier 2 lockdown restrictions were introduced.

From Hockley, through Pelham Street and into Old Market Square, the city was remarkably wet and quiet on the evening of Tuesday, October 13.

From today (October 14), meeting indoors with people outside your household is strictly prohibited and will be enforced by law.

The new restrictions - which are broken down into three 'tiers' - comes as Nottingham continues to report the highest number of coronavirus cases in England.

Only Liverpool, which has 25 percent fewer cases per 100,000 people than Nottingham, has been placed into Tier 3 - whereby pubs, bars, gyms and other establishments must close.

The scenes in Nottingham were, however, markedly different to those in Liverpool, where huge crowds were reported on the night before pubs and bars were forced to close.

Nottingham on the other hand was very quiet, but this may be down to the fact pubs and bars are - at present - allowed to stay open subject to the 10pm curfew.

The rain, which started from around 8pm, may have also deterred the city's regular revellers, but it may also have been a sign people were taking the worsening pandemic seriously.

Nottingham City Council's leader has warned if the Covid infection rate does not improve soon, the city may well be pushed into Tier 3.

Strolling through the silent streets, students, residents and taxi drivers were last night left wondering just how their favourite venues would survive for much longer.
