Timelapse video shows Nottingham city centre as pubs and bars reopen on Super Saturday

This timelapse video shows Nottingham city centre on the evening of Saturday, July 4, the day pubs and bars reopened after three long months.

From Lister Gate, up past The Cross Keys and towards Lloyds No.1 Bar, to Old Market Square and the narrow alley of Hurts Yard, Nottinghamshire Live reporter Joseph Locker took a stroll through the city on Super Saturday.

Filming every step along the way, it was evident the city had become much more alive.

Small groups gathered outside pubs, cold pints were being pulled, and the quiet city was once again filled with the sound of merry laughter.

But things had changed.

Queues of people lined up at least two metres apart outside the usually bustling Joseph Else Wetherspoon and doormen stood checking temperatures and took names down.

There was an absence of the hustle and bustle of a typical Saturday night in the city, particularly on a day when the Reds took on the Rams at Pride Park.

Compared to Soho in London, which was pictured teeming with people throughout the same day, Nottingham was remarkably quiet.

While many may have expected thirsty drinkers to return in swathes, the reality was much more sobering as more people than not perhaps chose to avoid the city for fear of the ever present coronavirus.

Nottingham's nighttime economy may have somewhat come back to life, but it was a more bittersweet return to normality than many may have been expecting.
